WORLD PAIRS SEMI FINAL |
The Czech Republic, the defending champions, started the meeting as favourites and duly qualified for the World Pairs final without any real worries, led by Petr Marko who was ably supported by Tibor Nemecek. Latvia may seem like surprise qualifiers but Leonid Izotov used all his experience and Henrijs Birkerts is a rising young star and they overcame some bad luck too as they progressed to the final. The rostrum was completed by Canada, for whom Jackson Roy was excellent and both his partners produced points when needed which proved enough. The USA hosted this semi final but were left sweating on the result from the other Semi after finishing 4th. In the end the 14+2 return from Jack Hagen ensured they had enough points to progress as highest scoring 4th placed side. |
The rest showed well in patches but never really looked like having enough. Andre Hayward had little support for South Africa with Japan and Ireland not having the outstanding performance that marked out the nations above them. |

WORLD PAIRS SEMI FINAL |
This looked like the toughest of the Semi Finals on paper and so it proved with a couple of well fancied nations dropping out of the title chase. Denmark are many people's title favourites and they justified that tag with both Steen Eriksen and Kenni Algreen hitting double figure returns as they won by a comfortable margin. Norway and England are both former winners of the competition and they will be in the final again, led through by Olle Bjorn Thoresen and Hayden Wood respectively, with their supporting partner both scoring well too. |
New Zealand finished 4th but quickly found out America had outscored them in the other Semi Final and their 17 points would not be enough - as expected the pressure to score heavily fell on Fillippe Chong, who notched 11+1 but they would have hoped for more from him if they wanted to qualify. The real shocker was the failure of Poland for whom Jacek Klecha did well but the support was not enough and they finished 5th in the meeting as they desperately missed their injured number 1 Boguslaw Kryznowek, out with a thigh injury. Home nation Hungary battled well but couldn't find enough support for Jakub Fekete (12) and Bulgaria ended the meeting bottom of the pile as they failed to back up the impressive Petar Bosilek (10). |
